Dr. Krishna Kumar is Executive Vice President and Chief Research Officer at NORC at the University of Chicago. As an economist and research executive he has 25+ years of experience teaching, researching, leading research projects and departments, and influencing global economic policy. His fields are economic growth and development, human capital and labor markets, and more broadly global economics. He has worked on an economic development blueprint for North Korea, advancing global citizenship in America, Middle East labor markets for Syrian refugees, informal Bangladesh labor markets, U.S. labor market inequality, and calculating the unemployment rate and gross regional product of the Kurdistan Region–Iraq. He has also studied the effect of U.S. life sciences research funding on university R&D and commercialization and compared the Indian and Chinese education systems. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from The University of Chicago.
